CONTENT Jonathan is a boy on his quest to manhood. It is a long journey filled with wonder, love, loneliness and danger. On his journey Jonathan is driven by his will to discover the one ultimate truth. He meets many fantastical characters; all who confuse, manipulate, love and inspire him. They claim that they, and only they, can reveal the one truth to him and he follows them, fully devoted yet ready with questions.
TOPICALITY Why tell this story now? Apart from a very interesting view on the development and growth of a person, this story beautifully shows the vulnerability of youth as one begins to shape one’s identity and tries to find his or her position in society. During this impressionable faze young people are susceptible to extremes. The story shows how easily someone can be enticed to step away from society and eventually turn one’s back to it. More often than not this leads to fundamentalism and extremism.
