KEVIN RICHMOND

Kevin is currently working as a freelance teacher for companies such as Rambert Ballet, Bern Ballet, Basel Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet among others.

Born in Nottingham England, Kevin started his early training at the Nottingham Academy of Speech, Dance & Drama at the age of 8. Studying Ballet under the Cecchetti Society along side Drama which was affiliated to London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
He took his first Equity approved contract ,as a dancer with Dance For Everyone, a London based Theatre In Education Company (TIE) touring both Greater London Schools and Nationally. This was the touring-work-schedule that gave him the basis for his next leap into the ballet world and an invitation from Dame Beryl Grey to join London Festival Ballet.

London Festival Ballet/English National Ballet, a company that toured extensively throughout the world, was indeed the back bone and main stay of Kevin’s dancing career. From 1977-99 he worked with some of the worlds most renowned choreographers /Dancers/Teachers and Directors, including Dame Beryl Grey, John Field, Peter Schaufuss, Ivan Nagy, Derek Dean, Christopher Gabel Woytec Lowski, Elisabeth Anderton, Fredrick Ashton, Natalya Makarova ,Rudolph Nureyev

His roles for the company were varied and challenging, many created on him. Greening (Glen Tetley) A stranger I came (Robert North) White Nights (Kim Braunstrup) Gershwin ( Nils Christie ) Swansong (SWET nominee),Symphony in 3 ,The World Again, Land ( Christopher Bruce ).Night Creatures(Alvin Ailey).
Alongside his dancing, Kevin’s early acting career was put to good use in numerous character roles.
Dr Coppelieus (Ronald Hynde) Drosselmeyer (Peter Schaufuss) Ugly sister (Ben Stevenson) the Duchess (Derek Dean).Hillirion (Skeaping).Tybalt (Ashton/Schaufuss) Frier Lawrence (Nureyev Dean),to name but a few.
In 1999 having left ENB he decided to augment his vocation to a greater degree and enrolled in the Royal Academy of Professional Dancers Teachers Diploma .It’s completion securing his ability to teach accredited syllabus work to younger dancers, within a structured and well established examination procedure.
It was during this time that he made himself available for various teaching appointments.
Guest Teacher for Royal New Zealand Ballet & Peter Schaufuss Dance Company, Denmark.
Guest with ARC Dance Company (Kim Braunstrup) as both Teacher & Performer.
Boys Ballet for London Children’s Ballet. Guest teacher for London Studio Centre, (later a more permanent position over 4 years) Dance Works & Pineapple Studios. Adult Ballet classes at The Place. Millennium Dance & Bodyworks Dance Studios. Assistant to Margaret Barbieri (Images of Dance) during which time he was assistant to Wayne Sleep ,Cathy Marston and Christopher Hampson He also assisted Cathy Marston for her production of The Ballet Shoes .
More recently in his position as Balletmaster for Richard Wherlock and Ballett Basel, he was given the opportunity to work alongside such established choreographers as Nacho Duato, Jiri Kyllian, Christopher Bruce ,Claude Brumachon , Mauro Bigonzetti, Patrick DelCroix & Jorma Elo.
In 2010 he has been invited to teach for Rambert Dance Company,Bern Ballet, Gyori Ballet,Nederlands Dans Theater,Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble and The Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
Having been Ballettmeister @ Ballett Basel for four years, he now continues working as freelance classical ballet teacher/choreographers assistant, and living in Basel Switzerland.
