Spanish pianist Alex Alguacil is one of the most promising musicians of his generation. A native of Barcelona, he has performed in major concert halls in Spain, United States, and Japan.
He has made a name performing the music of his own country, but his artistic abilities are able to embrace many other genres and styles. Critics have described him as “an intelligent musician”, a “high-class virtuoso” and a pianist “with a secure success in his future career”.
Mr. Alguacil was unanimously awarded with the “special prize” as the best pianist of his promotion during his early student years at the Conservatory of Barcelona, where he showed great and promising talent.
He made his début at the prestigious “Palau de la Música” in Barcelona performing Shostakovich’s first piano concerto with the Vallès Symphony Orchestra”, under the baton of Catalan composer and conductor Salvador Brotons. Mme. Alicia De Larrocha, attendee at the concert, was most impressed with the performance and agreed to give Alex her advice for the future, creating an artistic relation that would last for many years. His Spanish repertoire grew larger and he had many chances to present it to his audiences later on.
In 2003, Alex Alguacil moved to New York City. Soon he got immersed in the cultural life of the city, which turned out to be most exciting and interesting for a musician like him.
As his career progressed, he got the chance of performing with a number of orchestras and open an array of performance opportunities that took him to prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall at the Lincoln Center.
Critics praised him in his appearance with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in 2007,
performing Prokofiev's 3rd piano concerto, describing him as a “powerful and technically brilliant musician”.
His début at Carnegie Hall was hailed as “one of the most interesting concerts by young musicians” of that year.
Highlights this season include appearances with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, WA, recitals in Sitges, Barcelona, Girona, Santa cristina d'Aro, Chicago, Portland, Connecticut and New York, among others.
